General Questions

How long has ECM been in business?
ECM Contractors was founded in 1995 in Massachusetts and has been serving New England for over 30 years. We've completed more than 500 commercial, industrial, and residential painting projects with a 98% client satisfaction rate. Today we operate across all six New England states with a dedicated crew of experienced professionals.
What areas do you serve?
We serve all six New England states: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Our crews are stationed throughout the region for fast response times, and we regularly handle multi-location projects spanning the entire territory.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. ECM Contractors is fully licensed in every state we operate in and carries comprehensive insurance including general liability ($2M coverage), workers' compensation for all crew members, and commercial auto coverage. We're also OSHA safety compliant and an EPA Lead-Safe Certified firm. Certificates of insurance are provided upon request before any work begins.

Estimates & Pricing

How do I request an estimate?
Three ways: fill out our online estimate form, call us at (617) 555-1234, or email estimates@ecmcontractors.com. We respond to every inquiry within 24 hours and can typically schedule a free on-site assessment within 2-3 business days.
How much does a painting project cost?
Commercial interior painting typically ranges from $1 to $6 per square foot, and exterior work from $1 to $8 per square foot — depending on surface condition, prep requirements, paint grade, and access difficulty. Epoxy floor coatings range from $3 to $12 per square foot. We provide detailed, itemized estimates so you know exactly what you're paying for. No hidden fees.
Do you offer payment plans?
For larger projects, we offer flexible payment terms. Standard structure is 25-50% upon contract signing with the balance due upon completion and your final walkthrough approval. We're happy to discuss options that work for your budget during the estimate process.

Project Timeline & Process

How long do painting projects typically take?
Timelines vary by scope: a single office suite or tenant turnover typically takes 2-5 days. A full building exterior or restaurant renovation runs 1-4 weeks. Large industrial projects or multi-location rollouts can take 1-3 months. Every estimate includes a detailed project timeline.
How much advance notice do you need?
For small to mid-size projects, we can often schedule within 1-2 weeks. Larger projects typically require 3-4 weeks of lead time. During peak season (spring through early fall), longer notice helps secure your preferred dates. For emergency or time-sensitive work, contact us directly — we accommodate rush projects whenever possible.
What is your preparation process?
Surface preparation is the foundation of every lasting paint job. Our process includes power washing, scraping loose or peeling paint, sanding for adhesion, patching cracks and damage, caulking gaps, masking and protecting surrounding areas, and applying the appropriate primer. We never cut corners on prep — it's where quality is made.

Materials & Quality

Why do you use Sherwin-Williams paint?
As a Sherwin-Williams preferred contractor, we have access to their full commercial product line — paints engineered for superior durability, color retention, and coverage. Their products withstand New England's demanding climate, come in low-VOC and zero-VOC formulations, and include manufacturer-backed warranties. It's the industry standard for commercial work, and our crews know the product line inside and out.
Can I choose my own paint?
We strongly recommend Sherwin-Williams products because our preferred contractor partnership gives you access to premium materials at competitive pricing, plus manufacturer warranty coverage. That said, we can work with other premium brands like Benjamin Moore or PPG for specific project requirements. We'll always recommend what's best for your surface and environment.
Do you offer eco-friendly paint options?
Yes. Sherwin-Williams offers excellent low-VOC and zero-VOC options — including their Harmony and ProMar lines — that maintain full durability and color quality while improving indoor air quality. These are especially popular for healthcare facilities, schools, offices, and any occupied space where air quality is a priority.

Maintenance & Warranty

How long will my paint job last?
With proper preparation and premium materials, interior commercial paint typically lasts 5-10 years and exterior surfaces 5-8 years, depending on climate exposure and traffic. Industrial coatings and epoxy floor systems can last 10-15+ years. Regular maintenance — cleaning, touch-ups, and prompt repair of any damage — significantly extends these lifespans.
What maintenance tips can extend paint durability?
For interiors: dust regularly and clean with a damp cloth — avoid harsh chemicals. For exteriors: power wash every 2-3 years, address any chips or cracks immediately, trim vegetation away from painted surfaces, and ensure proper drainage to prevent moisture damage. For industrial coatings: follow the maintenance schedule included in your project documentation. We also offer ongoing maintenance programs for commercial properties.
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
Yes. Every ECM project includes a written workmanship warranty covering defects in application — including peeling, bubbling, cracking, or color inconsistency caused by improper technique. Sherwin-Williams also provides separate manufacturer warranties on the paint products themselves, covering premature fading, chalking, and blistering. All warranty terms are documented in your project completion package.
